With Jukil de los Andes, we will journey into the heart of Bolivia on the Uyuni Lagoon Tour 3D/2N – Private Tour Uyuni Salt Flats and Lagoons Colorada. This is not just a tour, it’s a surreal passage through ancient salt seas, crimson lagoons, volcanic deserts, and steaming geysers. The Uyuni Salt Flats, known as Salar de Uyuni, are the largest on Earth, spanning over 10,000 km² of dazzling white landscape. When flooded during the rainy season, this mirror to the sky becomes one of the most otherworldly sights on the planet.
We will drive across dreamlike terrain where time and gravity lose meaning. From the reflective salt flats to the red-colored waters of Laguna Colorada, every turn reveals nature in its most artistic form. Flamingos dance in multicolored lagoons, geysers erupt at sunrise, and giant cacti grow from ancient coral islands. Whether we travel during the mirror season or under a clear desert sky, the atmosphere will feel charged with magic.
This private tour with Jukil de los Andes combines adventure and tranquility, adrenaline and awe. We will soak in natural hot springs at 5,000 meters above sea level, sip wine as the sun sinks behind a silver horizon, and gaze at volcanoes rising from Martian valleys. From start to finish, this journey will reshape our idea of beauty, silence, and space. The Uyuni Salt Flats and lagoons colorada will stay with us long after we return.

We will begin our Uyuni Lagoon Tour at 10:30 a.m. in the town of Uyuni. Our first stop is the haunting Train Graveyard, where rusted locomotives lie abandoned. These trains once linked Bolivia’s mines to the Pacific and now rest under salty winds. Their metallic skeletons form surreal photo backdrops.
We will continue to Colchani, a small artisan town beside the Salar. Here, we can watch locals extract salt using traditional techniques. We will see handmade crafts from alpaca wool and pure salt blocks. It’s the perfect place to buy souvenirs.
Next, we will enter Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat on Earth. This natural wonder spans over 10,000 km². In the rainy season, it becomes a giant mirror reflecting the sky. In dry months, it glows with geometric patterns.
We will visit Ojos de Agua, a salt spring bubbling from underground rivers. Then we will stop at Hotel de Sal Playa Blanca, a former salt hotel. The Flags of the World and Dakar Monument add color and symbolism to the flats.
After lunch, we will explore Isla Incahuasi, a rocky island of giant cacti. We will hike to the top and admire coral fossils and 360° salt views. Later, we’ll take fun optical illusion photos, imagination makes this experience unforgettable.
We will close the day with a stunning salt flat sunset. The changing colors will reflect across the endless white landscape. We will enjoy it with a glass of Bolivian wine before heading to Agencha to rest.
Stay: Salt Hotel in Agencha (private bathrooms). During the rainy season, we will stay in Uyuni instead, due to road conditions.
We will rise early and depart by 7:00 a.m. Our first destination is the Chiguana Desert, located at the edge of the Salar. Volcanoes dominate the landscape, especially Volcán Ollagüe, which still smokes with geothermal activity.
We will follow a high-altitude road and reach the Andean lagoons. These include Laguna Cañapa, Hedionda, and Chiarcota. Each lagoon has vivid colors caused by minerals and algae. Pink flamingos feed in the shallow waters a true highlight.
After a scenic lunch stop, we will enter the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. This protected area offers Martian-like views and geological formations. We will drive through the Siloli Desert, often called the highest desert on Earth.
There, we will visit the famous Árbol de Piedra or Stone Tree. This natural sculpture rises from the sand, shaped by centuries of strong wind. As we continue, we will spot vicuñas, foxes, and other Altiplano wildlife.
We will arrive at Laguna Colorada, a large red-colored lake filled with flamingos. The intense red hue comes from algae and sediment. The contrast with white borax islands makes this site unforgettable. We will sleep near this red lagoon under a sky full of stars.
Stay: Hostel in Huayllajara (shared rooms with optional private upgrade)
We will begin at 5:00 a.m. with a drive to the Sol de Mañana geyser field. This volcanic area sits at 5,000 meters above sea level. Fumaroles spew steam, and boiling mud pots bubble at 200°C . It’s a powerful start to the day.
Next, we will soak in natural hot springs with waters at 35°C. The open-air pool overlooks the Altiplano, offering perfect relaxation. We will sip coca tea and enjoy the early morning warmth.
From here, we will explore the surreal Dali Desert. Named after Salvador Dalí, this landscape features strange, colorful rock formations. It looks like a living canvas painted by wind and time.
Our final destination is the border region, where we visit Laguna Verde and Laguna Blanca. These colorful lagoons shimmer below Volcán Licancabur, near the Chilean border. The colors change with the weather, shades of green, blue, and white swirl together.
We will eat a picnic lunch along the route and begin our return to Uyuni. On the way, we will pass through Valle de Rocas and San Cristóbal. We will arrive in Uyuni at 6:30 p.m., completing this breathtaking three-day adventure.
Optional drop-off: We can assist travelers continuing to San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Please request in advance.
We will begin with the Uyuni Salt Flats, visiting the Train Graveyard, Colchani, and Isla Incahuasi. Day two will focus on Laguna Colorada, the Eduardo Avaroa National Park, and the high desert landscapes. On the final day, we will explore geysers, hot springs, and Laguna Verde before returning to Uyuni or continuing to San Pedro de Atacama.
Night 1 is spent in a salt hotel in Agencha with rooms for 2–6 people and private bathrooms. Night 2 is in Huayllajara, in a shared 6-bed room with communal bathroom. During the rainy season, we may stay in Uyuni town instead of the salt lodge due to weather conditions.
Yes. The tour includes 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 2 dinners. Only 2 lunches are included if the trip ends in San Pedro de Atacama. Vegetarian meals are available if requested in advance.
We recommend warm, layered clothing including a windbreaker and thermal wear. Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, a wide-brim hat, and comfortable hiking shoes. Bring a swimsuit and towel for the hot springs, as well as cash in Bolivianos for entrance fees and personal expenses.
Most of the tour involves light walking and sightseeing. However, the altitude ranges from 3,600 to 5,000 meters (11,800 to 16,400 feet), so you may feel winded. We strongly recommend arriving in Uyuni a day early to acclimate to the altitude.
A once-in-a-lifetime experience!
This 3-day Uyuni Salt Flats and Lagoons Colorada tour was absolutely magical. The landscapes were unreal, especially Laguna Colorada and the mirror-like reflections on the salt flats.
